Astragalus drummondii (Drummond's Milk Vetch) - photos and description
General: Bushy plant with white, woolly leaves and stems giving the plant a bluish grey colour.
Flowers: Flower stems are axillary, flowers grow in spikes, are white in colour, pendant, we measured a flower at 2 cm long.
Leaves: Leaves are alternate, densely woolly on the undersides and margins. I counted 23 to 25 leaflets on most leaves, leaflets are 2 cm long and 1 cm wide when pressed flat.
Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 60 cm, I've measured plants to 30 cm tall.
Habitat: Uplands in the southwest of the province.
Abundance: Fairly common.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: The above photos were taken May 21st, clay hills, Frenchman River Valley west block of the Grasslands National Park, about 400 km southwest of Regina, SK, and June 24th prairie hilltop, Cypress Hills about 425 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
