Barbarea orthoceras (American Winter Cress) - photos and description

General: Erect, single-stemmed annual, stems hairless, reddish at base.
Flowers: Flowers yellow, in dense clusters at stem tips and upper leaf axils. We measured a flower at 4 mm diameter.
Leaves: Leaves alternate, lyrate, with a large terminal lobe and 1 to 3 pairs of narrow lobes. Stem leaves with ear-like lobes where they join the stem. We measured a stem leaf to 5 cm long (including petiole) and 1.5 cm wide Leaves and petioles with hairy margins.
Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 50 cm, we measured plants to 33 cm tall.
Habitat: Streams and lakeshores, Cypress Hills and boreal forest.
Abundance: Listed as fairly common in Checklist of the Vascular Plants of Saskatchewan.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: Took the above photos May 19th, stream bank, Cypress Hills, about 450 km south west of Regina, SK, and May 25th in an old beaver swamp, Cypress Hills, about 425 km south west of our home in Regina, SK.
