Gnaphalium palustre (Western Marsh Cudweed) - photos and description
Leaves broad, oblanceolate to spatulate
General: Low growing annual, often much-branched with woolly foliage.
Flowers: Flower heads 1.5 mm wide and 4 mm tall, white with a yellow centre.
Leaves: Leaves alternate, lower leaves are spatulate with short stalks, upper leaves oblong, stalkless. Lower leaf measured at 12 mm long (including stalk), and 4 mm wide.
Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 20 cm, we measured plants to 5 cm tall.
Habitat: Sloughs and wet places, prairies and parklands.
Abundance: Listed as common, although I've only seen it a couple of times.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: Photographed on July 7th, low ground in prairie holding spring pools of water, about 500 km southwest of Regina, SK, and, August 6th, dried slough near East Block of Grasslands Park, about 300 km southwest of our home in Regina, Saskatchewan.
