Several plants in a sandy ditch
General: A low, mat-forming shrub. Leaves evergreen.
Flowers: Flowers many at stem tips, are bright yellow, with 5 petals, we measured a flower at 1 cm in diameter. Flowering begins mid June.
Leaves: Leaves are alternate, appressed, imbricate, densely hairy, with a pointed tip, we measured a leaf at 2 mm long and 1 mm wide.
Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 20 cm, we measured plants to 105 cm wide.
Habitat: Sand dunes on lakeshores, and sandy clearings in pine woods, boreal forest.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: Took the above photos June 25th, very sandy roadside, near La Ronge, about 600 km north of Regina, and July 9th, sandy jack pine woods in the Meadow Lake Provincial Forest, about 550 km northwest of our home in Regina, SK.
