Kalmia polifolia (Bog Laurel) - photos and description
Origin: Native.
General: Evergreen shrub with a single stemmed to branching growth habit.
Flowers: Flowers are showy, light to dark pink in colour, appearing in clusters in the upper leaf axils, we measured a flower at 13 mm diameter.
Leaves: Leaves are opposite, linear, glossy green with rolled edges. Leaves measured to 23 mm long and 4 mm wide.
Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 60 cm, We measured plants to 24 cm tall.
Habitat: Bogs in the boreal forest.
Abundance: Common.
When and where photographed: Photos taken June 12th and June 18th sphagnum bog Hudson Bay district, about 400 km north east of Regina, SK, and June 28th, sphagnum bog south of La Ronge, about 600 km north of our home in Regina, SK.
