Linnaea borealis (Twinflower) - photos and description

 

 

 

 

Origin: Native.

General: Plants with creeping stems, forming mats. Leaves evergreen. Plant stems reddish coloured. Stems hairy.

Flowers: Flowers pink, funnelform, pendant, growing in twos from long peduncles.

Leaves:  Leaves opposite, oval to orbicular, we measured a leaf at 17 mm long including petiole. Larger leaves with a few teeth.

Height: Stem length listed in Budd's Flora from 15 cm to 75 cm, we measured flowering stems to 10 cm tall.

Habitat: Woodlands.

Abundance: Common.

When and where photographed: Took the above photos June 24th, mossy black spruce woods about 350 km north of Regina, SK, and June 26th in forest south of La Ronge, about 600 km north of our home in Regina, SK
