Rubus arcticus (Stemless Raspberry) - photos and description
General: Low growing perennial with a showy, single, pink flower in mid-June. The plant produces a single edible, red, raspberry-like fruit in late summer.
Flowers: Petals narrow at the base, we measured a flower at 22 mm diameter.
Leaves: Leaves are basal, ternate, leaflets ovate, dentate; leaflet measured 2.5 cm long and 2 cm wide.
Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 20 cm, we measured plants to 8 cm tall.
Habitat: Sphagnum bogs and wet coniferous forest in the boreal forest.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
Synonym: Listed in some of the field guides we use as Rubus acaulis.
When and where photographed: The above photos were taken June 12th, moist, black spruce woods, June 12th Hudson Bay district, about 400 km north east of Regina, SK, and July 2nd in wet, mossy forest, Porcupine Hills, about 450 km north east of out home in Regina, SK.
