Origin: Native.
General: Stout-stemmed plants, foliage cobwebby-villous.
Flowers: Flat-topped clusters of bright yellow flowers at stem ends and from upper leaf axils. Flower heads measured to 25 mm diameter. Bracts often with black tips.
Leaves: Leaves entire. Stem leaves are alternate, lanceolate, sessile, and reduced in size up the stem. Stem leaf in photo was 66 mm long and 15 mm wide. Basal leaves oblong to lanceolate. Basal leaf in photo was 11 cm long (including petiole) and 22 mm wide.
Height: Budd's Flora lists the height to 60 cm. We measured plants to 54 cm tall.
Habitat: Prairie hillsides in southern Saskatchewan.
Abundance: Common.
When and where photographed: Photos taken May 13th, prairie hillside in the Buffalo Grass Eco Reserve, 200 km southeast of Regina, SK, May 27th and May 31st East Block Grasslands National Park 275 km southwest of our home in Regina, and May 20th in the Cypress Hills, 425 km southwest of Regina, SK, June 03 on a shrubby hillside, Cypress Hills, 425 km southwest of Regina, SK, and June 11th in a prairie pasture, about 125 km west of our home in Regina, SK.
